Off Street Dog Park
 

Calvin Murphy, Recreation Manager, gave a status update on the Off Street Dog Park. He confirmed that the survey questions and communications plan would be brought back, in a timely fashion, to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee for final approval.

    WHEREAS Council, at the Committee of the Whole meeting on August 25, 2020, requested that the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee engage in public consultation regarding the future of a municipality run off street dog park in Mississippi Mills;

     

    AND WHEREAS Laurel Cook appeared as a delegation at the last Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee on December 1, 2020 and confirmed that her group would be interested in taking part in the public consultation process; 

     

    THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Laurel Cook be invited to the next meeting of the Dog Park Working Group to participate in the development of a community outreach plan.

    THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Vicki Lowe be appointed to replace Scott Newton as a member of the Dog Park Working Group.

The Recreation Programs Working Group had planned to meet in January; however due to the Provincial shutdown the meeting was postponed. The first meeting of this group will now take place via Zoom later this month.

On request of an Advisory Committee member, Calvin Murphy provided some background information on the creation of the policy, noting that Don Maynard Park had been adopted. The tender for this project closed on February 23, 2021. A report is being prepared for Council approval with construction to be undertaken in the Spring/Summer 2021.

Community Services Master Plan
 

Calvin Murphy, Recreation Manager, gave the committee a brief overview of the Community Services Master Plan. The plan forms part of the municipality's Strategic Plan, developed to assist Council and staff in setting priorities and making decisions that will impact our community for years to come.

The Community Services Master Plan will involve an in-depth review of Culture and Recreation, Library and Childcare to gain a shared understanding of these community focused services and what impact they will have on future municipal planning and development.

Canada Healthy Community Initiatives Grant
 

The Healthy Communities Initiative is a $31 million investment from the Government of Canada to transform public spaces in response to COVID-19. Calvin Murphy, Recreation Manager, confirmed that he has not applied for funding under this grant program; however, he may look at applying in the coming months to assist with other projects.

Bridging Generations is looking to apply, in partnership with the municipality, for support of their plans for the Pakenham circuit trail. The Pakenham Trail initiative was referred to the Community and Economic Development Advisory Committee, by Council, in October 2019.
